For On the Edges of Paradise, Bonvin penetrated various gated communities during repeated visits to Istanbul. These suburban fenced settlements are to be found in large metropolis and offer indeed a subject for photography. Their confinement making them even more visible, the formal repetition of the prefabricated family houses with their stereotyped garden and swimming pool offering a superficial beauty that is hard to resist for one’s gaze. Bonvin has put under scrutiny these artificial cities within the city and produced a significant series of photographs.
